My name is John Manning and I am a junior at the University of Rhode Island. I have lived in Rhode Island my whole life and currently reside in the town of North Kingstown. I attended Monsignor Clarke School in Wakefield and Our Lady of Mercy School in East Greenwich for elementary and middle school. I went to Bishop Hendricken High School and graduated in 2006. I attended Duquesne University, a Catholic college in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for all of my freshman year and half of my sophomore year before transferring to URI. I am a Secondary Education major, interested in teaching history.

In high school, I played football and baseball and consider myself a very athletic and competitive person. I love to play sports, or basically do anything involving sports. I am currently an assistant coach for the Hendricken Freshman football team, along with my father. Coaching and teaching have many similarities and I think this is a great experience for anyone, if they truly want to know if they can make it in the teaching world. It certainly has its ups and downs, but I love it and I think it will correspond well to my future career in teaching at the high school level.

I work as a camp counselor for the Town of North Kingstown in its summer recreation program. I work with boys and girls ages 6-13 and basically spend the entire summer outdoors playing kickball, soccer, wiffleball, or basically anything I feel like humiliating them in. It's definitely one of the most rewarding jobs around and also has many similarities with teaching.
